Behind the pencils…
Renee Moshi is a Sydney based artist, working exclusively in coloured pencil. Her practice centres on everyday objects such as dolls, marbles, and shoes, rendered with careful realism that highlight texture, reflection, and colour. Through this lens, familiar objects become emotionally loaded; playful, nostalgic, and quietly confronting.
Through both ongoing series and standalone pieces, Renee is undertaking an exploration of connections between memory, identity, and imagination through objects that carry both familiarity and nostalgia. Works such as Crash, Kaleidollscope, and Keepsies highlight the hidden significance of simple items while inviting viewers to encounter them from a fresh perspective.
With selections in national art prizes including the 2025 Fisher’s Ghost Art Prize, Renee continues to refine her craft. Each drawing reflects her pursuit of truth through colour and pencil, combining careful observation with a spirit of playfulness and a vision that makes people look twice.
